George Burley had the unenvious task of fleshing out the administration-ravaged Crystal Palace team and delved into the free transfer market again. David Wright had been Burley’s first addition on June 29th, and on July 6th he added Andy Dorman and Adam Barrett to the ranks.

Video footage of Dorman scoring screamers for St Mirren emerged and excited the fans. The more pragmatic amongst us were just happy that we were able to sign players again after coming so close to the end just a month earlier.

Needless to say, neither transfer worked out. Barrett made just nine appearances as he failed to break into the team despite impressing in a pre-season match against Chelsea. Dorman did appear 26 times for the Eagles, giving us all hope that we could still make it as professional footballers. To be fair to him, his only goal for the Club was a diving header from outside the area – but that makes it sound a lot better than it actually was.
