Dougie Freedman: The Interview [Flashback]

Palace Article

With Dougie Freedman returning to Crystal Palace as Sporting Director, we thought that we would revisit the Holmesdale Radio interview recorded in May 2016 with the Palace legend.

‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’ has never rung truer. In a casual planning chat for the end of season Holmesdale Radio show, we were throwing around names of Palace people that we would like to interview. At the very top of the list was Dougie Freedman, but we thought that there would be no chance we’d be able to secure an interview. We decided to have a go regardless, and a few text messages later, we were all flabbergasted by the fact that an interview was in the diary for the following week! Moreover, the fact that he went on to speak to us for 90 minutes blew us away.

The interview possesses practically everything that one could want. Memories of Wolves in the Play-Offs, Portsmouth, and Stockport, administration, keeping Speroni and Ambrose at the Club, signing Ward, Delaney, Bolasie, and Jedinak, managing the Club, leaving, Spygate and so much more.

The interview is, quite simply, a must for any Palace fan. It is full of great stories, very open monologues and is littered with hilarious quips from the man that scored 108 times for the Club.

Freedman leaving for Bolton was a difficult period for us all. This interview will likely give you closure on the whole situation and allow you to move on and forgive, for want of a better word, the Doog. Some of you will refuse to believe a single word that he says and, of course, that is your prerogative. Either way, not listening is missing out on a brilliant 90 Palace minutes.

To get to the interview below, skip to 37:25 (apologies for the advert at the start - I can't make that not happen).

The podcast is also available through all of your regular podcast apps by searching Holmesdale Radio and selecting the end of season show.
