Neil McSteen in his book ‘Crystal Palace: On This Day’ remembered:

“With Crystal Palace two points off the bottom of the table, the board decided to dispense with the services of joint-managers Fred Dawes (below) and Charles Slade. Slade reverted back to his role of chief scout, but it was the end of Dawes’ association with the Glaziers, a club he joined as a player in 1936 from Northampton Town.”

Manager: Malcolm Allison

Crystal Palace continued to lead the way in Division Two after a comfortable 3-0 win over Grimsby, thanks to goals from David Kemp (below), Dave Swindlehurst and Ian Evans. Ultimately Allison’s Eagles would not last the pace in the league and would finish fifth, but this season would be more memorable for the FA Cup run.
